Image credit: NOT CONFIRMEDPHILADELPHIA — Halloween Nights at Eastern State Penitentiary returns October 2 with a doubled-in-size version of The Crypt, a new VIP history tour and changes to how visitors move through the festival. The 2026 season runs on select nights through November 7.
The Crypt joins Nightmares, Machine Shop, Dark Tides and Big Top Terror in the five-house lineup. Organizers say the expanded attraction will also introduce a Scare Cam. Parts of the festival will follow a linear route this year, while bars, lounges, performances, museum exhibits and food stops will still offer opportunities to explore at a visitor’s own pace.
Guests can opt into more direct interaction by taking a glow necklace at entry. According to the supplied announcement, performers may grab necklace wearers, guide them into hidden passageways or temporarily separate them from their group. That additional interaction is optional.
A new After Dark VIP ticket combines a 40-minute guided flashlight tour of Eastern State’s history with front-of-the-line festival access, Quick Pass entry to each haunted attraction and admission to The Speakeasy at Al Capone’s Cell. The lounge admission includes one beer, wine, cider or soft drink.
Quick Pass Admission is also available separately online. It includes General Admission benefits, Express Entry into the festival and priority queues at the haunted attractions. General Admission and Quick Pass tickets use half-hour entry windows; organizers recommend buying online in advance.
Two other experiences can be added at the door, subject to availability. A 20-minute Hospital Flashlight Tour explores Cellblock 3’s medical history and Operating Room for $13, including a souvenir flashlight. The Speakeasy is also available as an add-on for visitors who have not booked After Dark VIP admission.
Between the houses, Pumpkin Plaza, the Fair Chance Beer Garden and the Finale Courtyard offer seasonal food, drinks and entertainment. Eastern State’s history and museum exhibits remain part of the evening, giving visitors a way to engage with the site beyond its staged scares.
The final two nights, November 6 and 7, become Halloween Nights REMIXED: Holiday Havoc. Returning for its third year, that closing-weekend version brings Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day and other holidays into the festival’s horror settings.
Eastern State says all proceeds support its nonprofit work, including preservation, national education initiatives and workforce development programs such as the Returning Citizens Fellowship and Preservation Trades Center. The Halloween fundraiser began in 1991.
