Image credit: Photo courtesy of Field of ScreamsField of Screams will open its 34th season on Friday, September 11, bringing all four of its haunted attractions back to the Schopf family farm in Mountville and introducing a new experience inside one of the property’s signature haunts.
The major addition for 2026 is Midnight Masquerade, a new scene incorporated into the Den of Darkness.
Field of Screams founders and brothers Jim and Gene Schopf have operated the attraction on their family farm since 1993. The Den of Darkness followed in 1995, transforming a barn on the property into a multi-level haunted attraction that has continued to evolve over the decades.
Midnight Masquerade continues that evolution for the new season.
“We have been building on this farm since 1993, and we are still not done with it,” Jim Schopf said in announcing the 2026 season. “The Midnight Masquerade is something we have wanted to do inside that barn for a while now. Thirty-four years in, that part has not gotten old.”
The Den of Darkness is one of four major attractions operating at Field of Screams. The lineup also includes the Haunted Hayride, Frightmare Asylum and Nocturnal Wasteland.
Each attraction offers a different style of experience, ranging from indoor haunted environments to outdoor trails and the property’s long-running hayride.
Admission to the entertainment area accompanies attraction admission and adds another layer to the night, with scheduled live music and DJs, food, games and other activities throughout the season.
The 2026 calendar begins September 11 and continues on select nights through early November.
Field of Screams will also extend the season with its Extreme Blackout event on November 13, followed by the Zombie Fun Run 5K on November 14. A portion of proceeds from the Zombie Fun Run benefits the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.
More than three decades after Jim and Gene Schopf began frightening visitors on the family farm, the operation remains firmly rooted in Lancaster County.
Field of Screams is located at 191 College Avenue in Mountville, Pennsylvania.
