Myanmar horror has a new signal reaching beyond its borders.
*The Last Footage*, a Burmese-language found-footage feature from filmmaker Arkar Soe Oo, received its world premiere at the 2026 Fantasia International Film Festival, putting an independent Myanmar genre production in front of an international horror audience.
Produced by Myanmar independent production company aTwentyThree, the 88-minute film takes the found-footage concept literally: its story is presented through camera glasses, placing the audience directly inside the characters' increasingly dangerous trip into the wilderness.
The story follows a group of friends whose getaway to a remote forest cabin turns into a search for a missing boy. A blood ritual intended to resurrect a witch's dead son and a separate summoning unleash supernatural threats, leaving the group trapped between horrors while their final experiences are captured by the camera eyewear.
Arkar Soe Oo serves as writer and director, with a cast that includes Kyaw Kyaw Bo, Charlie Nyein and Li Li Kyaw Khaing.
The international festival appearance is notable beyond the film itself. aTwentyThree describes itself as an independent Myanmar production company focused on bringing genre, dramatic and mythology-influenced filmmaking to wider audiences.
Horror has always traveled well across borders. Monsters, ghosts and things waiting in dark forests rarely require much translation.
But the people telling those stories—and the cultures informing them—can give familiar horror forms an entirely different voice.
With *The Last Footage*, one of those voices is coming from Myanmar.
