Image credit: Carol Ann CarboneNEW YORK — New York City’s Village Halloween Parade will return to Greenwich Village on Halloween night for its 53rd year, with organizers announcing “Body & Soul” as the theme for the 2026 celebration.
The parade steps off Saturday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. and travels along Sixth Avenue from Canal Street to 15th Street.
This year’s theme draws on one of the parade’s most recognizable traditions: the skeletons that lead the procession each Halloween.
Organizers describe those figures as existing between the physical and spiritual worlds, using that imagery to explore the connection between the body, imagination and personal expression.
The theme also takes aim at an increasingly screen-centered world. In announcing “Body & Soul,” parade organizers encouraged participants to reconnect physical presence with creativity through costumes, music, movement and dance.
That concept fits naturally with an event built around public participation.
Anyone can watch the parade, while costumed participants are invited to join the procession. The 2026 parade is expected to feature hundreds of giant puppets, more than 50 bands, dancers, artists and thousands of costumed New Yorkers.
Participants who want to march can enter the lineup beginning at 6:30 p.m. Only people in costume are permitted to join the parade.
The Village Halloween Parade has grown from its artistic roots into one of New York City’s signature Halloween traditions, transforming Greenwich Village into a massive public performance each Oct. 31.
Organizers say the event draws more than 2 million spectators, with additional viewers watching its live television coverage.
For 2026, the parade will be presented live on Spectrum News NY1 beginning at 8 p.m.
The parade itself remains free for spectators and costumed marchers. Organizers also offer paid skip-the-line and VIP options that help support production of the nonprofit event.
With “Body & Soul,” the 2026 parade is putting its emphasis back on something at the heart of Halloween itself: taking imagination out of your head, putting it on your body and bringing it into the world.
